As you may be aware, the United States Food and Drug Administration has requested manufacturers withdraw all prescription and over the counter (OTC) ranitidine drugs from the market, effective immediately.
Ranitidine was sold under the brand names Zantac, Wal-Zan 150, Wal-Zan 75, Zantac Maximum Strength, Heartburn Relief (ranitidine), Acid Control (ranitidine), Acid Reducer (ranitidine), and Zantac 75.
This is due to the drug containing small amounts of NDMA which is considered a carcinogen. The risk of contracting cancer from taking this drug remains very low, but you should stop taking the drug and dispose of any unused supply or contact your pharmacy for return or disposal instructions. During the COVID-19 outbreak, most collections sites for OTC and prescription medicines are closed.
